Up at 6:30 this morning, half an hour before sunrise, with hot water in hand, bed made, goals written, face rinsed and fairly ready to take on the day. One of my goals lately, as I’ve mentioned before, is to learn to play the guitar. And so I’ve practiced probably 40 out of the past 47 days or so. Just some basic chords and fingering exercises to strengthen my hands and get a more natural feel of the guitar. I heard the song Hero by Family of the Year again yesterday though, and that inspired me to want to take it up a notch. So this morning I checked out a couple tutorials on youtube which led me to one of my favorite songs Africa by Toto that I’d also like to learn to play. After a few videos on that I found myself watching Australia’s Got Talent Auditions on youtube. And that’s the point when you look up and realize you just wasted an hour of your life. So frustrating. Technology got me already this morning. Phones and tablets, youtube and Facebook can be amazing tools, but also destructive masters. “Masters? Who said anything about masters?” When is the last time you heard your phone ding without immediately checking it? You may have even been in the middle of a conversation with your daughter, but the temptation was to much to resist. So who controls who in this situation? Or WHAT controls who. Let this serve as a reminder to use technology on our terms and not on it’s. Great tool. Bad master.
Side note: I will continue to work on blogging each morning as I’ve done for the past month, though I may not post each morning. Meaning that some of my posts will take a little more effort and research, so may take a few days to write. I will continue to post a journal-style-entry once in awhile, but also want to work on some more informative helpful posts as well. Maybe things like “5 Simple Steps to Immediately Change Your Life”, “10 Tips for a Happier Day” or “Gain Confidence by Doing This”. Wow, those really do sound intriguing. And I’m learning that the most popular posts in the blogosphere are often how to lists with catchy titles. This is all part of the evolution of this project and me figuring out what the hell I’m doing.
That’s all I got, have an outstanding day and I’ll talk to you again soon before sunrise. I think I’ll go practice the guitar now. : )
